Am I Invisible?
< maybe >
Noah Hawley’s Fargo is one of my favorite shows. I think they’re 5 seasons in - anthology so you can go in blind (s1 is Billy Bob, s2 is set in the past, s3 is Ewan twins, s4 is Chris Rock and s5 is the Tiger). Yea… 5 seasons. All great. Hawley’s found a niche of paying homage to things while forging something different. Season 3 features Carrie Coon aka Nora Durst from The Leftovers. She plays some sort of state trooper, yet when she walks in front of automatic doors, they don’t open. When she puts her hand under automatic faucets, the water doesn’t come out and it’s a rad running bit in the season that showcases her feeling of invisibility.
It’s a universal fear that maybe doesn’t get as much attention as it should. The feeling of being invisible. Looked over. Left out. It’s not FOMO as much as it’s straight up getting left out or not invited. In truth, we’re all just Junior Higher’s. Same feelings, different ages. In Fargo S3, the Carrie Coon character, Gloria Burgle, tells the story of Misky, a time displaced robot who just wants to help. But people keep ignoring him (or they are dead). Go here. I love Misky.
1 - If you feel unseen or invisible, just know you are awesome. If you need someone to talk to, hop in our freakin discord and meet some new friends. Everyone’s got stuff going on and we hope you feel seen. Love you all.
2 - almost every day, there’s something Undertaking related that makes me feel invisible. By no means, am I complaining, but I mostly want to put out how we feel. Spotify told us this about Forever Remember:
Of the 1,272 listeners in your active audience that you had before release day, 224 (17.6%) intentionally streamed this release in the first 10 days.
Wait… what? Only 17% of our fans listened to our new song? WTF? Haha That’s crazy!
I also emailed our EP to 30 labels. And I emailed our new song to 50+ blogs/podcasters/playlisters. Got maybe 5 responses. Zero labels even acknowledged the email. Some listened (cause I can tell on Samply) but no one replied. Again, not complaining. It’s just how it is. I was talking about Nicky Long Island (Godseyes) the other day and said if I started a label (more details coming soon), one of my core principles would be to reply to every email. Even if it’s a “hey, got your music. Thanks for sending it over.”
The resolve, by the way, is being absolutely 100% stubborn, led by a can-do attitude. I’m going to keep sending emails. Unless someone specifically said “hey, please stop sending us emails.” We have a new song out? I’m gonna tell you about it!
We are not invisible. We know that. But our social media engagement sometimes hints at it.
Hey you. Yea, you. Reading this newsletter. You are not invisible. Go put on your can-do attitude and go have a great day. Okay?
MOVIES/TV - Wednesday was so stupid. But very fun. I really like the Freaky Friday episode and the yearly dance was fun. Task is so so so good. DJ GRASSSSSNOVA. Alien Earth finale this week. Stoked on that. I’m most likely taking the kids to see the Gabby Gabby movie this weekend and I will make time to go see One Battle After Another. PTA adapting Pinchon? Let’s gooooooooo (I really like Inherent Vice).
Ohhhh, I watched Triple Frontier. That movie ruled! More like this, please.
EDITORS NOTE - PADRES ARE HEADED TO THE PLAYOFFS AGAIN! LFGSD.
