Birders World Dot Com
And the art of signing people up for newsletters
Once upon a time at Point Loma Nazarene University, I was a college freshman living in the dorm rooms. Hendrick South? Or North. I don’t remember. It doesn’t matter. Pieter and I most likely (definitely) had a Fight Club poster listing out the rules of Fight Club. I might have had a Sin City or Kill Bill poster up too. That, I can’t remember. We barely had cell phone service and I had to put my flip phone in one very specific spot in our dorm to get text messages. We relied heavily on AIM to communicate (Arollsroyce… good screen name).
Pause here to shout out Kylee (SMSoccerchick5) - in that same dorm room, I clarified our relationship statue as boyfriend/girlfriend. 20+ years ago. Never looked back.
Ok - Hendricks South (or North). Rolling through a lot of memories. It was common for us to sign each other up for newsletters. One specific one that has always stood out was “Birder’s World.” If you ever receive emails from Birder’s World dot com… it wasn’t me. One crowning achievement was signing Pieter up for eharmony but then we deleted the account cause people were actually reaching out to connect. Felt bad for the ladies. So yea, good prank. You’d randomly start getting emails for different websites. Kylee’s MO was signing you up for free gym memberships.
Most newsletters are an immediate block. Right? Don’t even get me started about the newsletters you accidentally sign up for if you forgot to UNCLICK all the buttons when checking out of some webstore. Ugh. All that to say, thanks for signing up for our newsletter. We hope it brings more value than Birder’s World dot com.
We have a new song coming out this week. Enjoy. It’s called Forever Remember. It’s one of the reasons I shared some college memories above. Never Forget. Never Surrender. Never Regret. Forever Remember. I just made that up. Feels like a Coach Taylor saying. We’ve had some conversations with our 11 year old about things that he does and doesn’t remember. And it’s fascinating. Our kids barely remember the weird nuances of 2020.
Forever Remember might be our most intense song to date. Curious to hear your opinions. Playing it live and/or at practice is wild. Its a grip it and rip it song. Feels like it pulls from our Dillenger/Converge influences more than other songs have. And before you ask, no, this song isn’t about you.
Hope you enjoy! We love this song a lot.
MOVIE/SHOWS
Task, y’all. Should be a good one. Feels good to have a primetime Sunday night HBO show back in our life. Been a minute. Fingers crossed it keeps up the vibes for the season.
Alien: Earth - I loved episode five. No spoilers just in case you aren’t watching or didn’t watch. I’m loving this show very much. I ran into some opposition in another discord about the show but man, it’s all right there for me. Sci fi/ aliens/ Noah Hawley. The right amount of visual flare. The right amount of weird sci fi. Lets gooooooo. Hawley excels at casting his shows and the Marginot crew is case in point.
