chaotic rock w/ a can-do attitude

Thanks for asking. 

For a few years, our tagline has been “chaotic rock w/ a can-do attitude.” As with the name of the band, I don’t really remember how or why that came to be. But we ran with it. Felt like a nice succinct phrase that kinda hits the nail on the head! 

Let’s put on our thinking hats and really pull this thing apart:

For starters, The Undertaking! rebooted in the summer of 2018. Dang… our anniversary is coming up pretty quick. I guess we turn 7 years old later this month. But also who’s counting? Technically, 2018 doesn’t count cause we didn’t play shows. 2020 doesn’t count ‘cause everyone blacked out…. We only played a couple shows in ’21. Feels like the band really just started up, so I’m gonna say we’ve only been a band for 2 years (despite actually starting in 2005…). It’s all complicated and no one can really know the exact details. Such mystery!

CHAOTIC ROCK:

When we started, the music vibe was definitely party rock n roll influenced by Every Time I Die and… Norma Jean? We’ve always felt like we are NOT hardcore. But we’re definitely not metalcore. It’s rooted in Rock N Roll and it’s chaotic. So, chaotic rock stuck! People have tried to label us different things… noisecore, chaoscore, but homie who listens to Clay Aiken and Toby Keith has no idea what those genres mean. “Oh you are in a band? What kind?” “Ummm it’s rock n roll but pretty loud and heavy… and I yell… so kinda punk hardcore…. It’s like chaotic rock n roll” ——— conversation ends. Side note - thoughts on removing early songs? Our Scavengers EP is terrible. Felt cute but might delete it. 

W/ A CAN-DO ATTITUDE:

A couple things here that are fun. I like the “with” abbreviation to w/ so that it ties into our use of the !. How does that tie in? I don’t know but it’s a symbol. Can-do attitude is some nice internal rhyming. And attitude is a good word. Some sass. The Ninja Turtles used similar syllables with “Raphael is cool but RUDE. Michelangelo is a party DUDE.” But also, there’s so much more. I really am not interested in tooting our horn here, but we have a good attitude. Anytime we’ve been faced with drama, closed doors, hardship… we just keep our heads down and have a good attitude. This little hobby that we’ve… undertaken could destroy us. The industry is brutal. We’re always down to pivot. Always down to try something. If a problem arises, we find a way to solve it. 

Oh… part of our can-do attitude is that one asshole in our band makes the whole band an asshole. We try to ALWAYS BE KIND! And a good hang. Sorry for the language, but its true.

Oh…we might have a single coming out soon. I’m not actually certain but it might happen quickly if it does. If it’s not SOON, then you are probably getting two singles in August. New music soon. I hate hyping that up, but it’s true. 5 song EP. And then we’ll start banging out a proper album. We’ve got a good system right now. And we’re writing sick songs. And we’ll probably release this EP on vinyl and cassette and compact disc. Who knows. 

Part of the reason we might drop a single soon is that we might have a show coming up. It’s not confirmed. But if it is, we’d want to pop out a song in conjunction with the show. It’s a big show… for us. But it’s also not confirmed.

SUPERMAN

Guys... that movie ruled. Hope you liked it. Sorry if you didn’t find joy in it. Hahahaha. James Gunn makes good movies. Croneworth or whatever is a great Superman/Clark Kent. Reminded me of the Adventures of Superman cartoon that came out after Batman: The Animated Series. Colorful. Fun. Quippy. 

Next on my list is Eddington and Fantastic Four. Pedro time.

It’s on Netflix. High recommend. Elevated sci fi from Argentine. Based on a graphic novels. The author was kidnapped by the Argentinian government after writing it.
