“If You’re So Rich, Why Aren’t You Smart?”

Friday, July 25

Dennis Nedry once called out the InGen competitor spy dude for being all secretive. That scene resonates so hard with our band. I’m not really the biggest meme guy (The Undertaking! will never be a meme band… meme bands are super cringey). But this always makes me laugh.

Today, if I’m correct, is the first time our newsletter is actually bringing you hot, breaking news. We’re releasing a single on Friday, July 25. It’s called “If You’re So Rich, Why Aren’t You Smart?” Let’s chat about it.

You might be scratching your head ‘cause we’ve been teasing an EP. You might have heard us say that we’re trying to release two singles at a time. You might have heard us say we’re trying to get this pressed physically before it’s available online. Well, all these things are true and we are really good at pivoting. It’s part of the whole… can-do attitude. So, remember last week when I mentioned a show might happen. Well, it did. We’re playing with Better Freakin’ Lovers at Brick by Brick on Tuesday, July 29. It’s going to be a sick show. Coming close to the anniversary of our band’s current inception, what better way to celebrate 7* years of being a band, than by playing with Better Lovers, Lockslip and **** **** **** ***. There’s one more band to be announced and I’m sure as heck not spoiling it in our newsletter. (Agent to Brick: hey that secret band for that show? Yea, it got spoiled in a newsletter that your stupid local puts out every week…). We typically try as hard as we can to anchor releases with tours or festivals, so we said shoot! Let’s release a single before that show. Good thing they’re ready.

Oh oh oh - we got this show because of our can-do attitude and the relationships we’ve built at Brick. I wrote about that in a previous newsletter too. Sorry to get all MCU on you with interconnecting newsletters but you should read them all.

Here are some facts:

Fact 1: We wrote, recorded, produced, mixed and mastered this EP all by ourselves. There was no outside help in the creation of these songs. If they suck, you now know why.

Fact 2: there are 5 completed songs, all part of our EP “Only Left Alive To See The End.” If you want to hear the EP, message us and say “Hey, I’d like to hear the new EP. Thank you for being the best band in the world.”

Fact 3: we have 6 more songs in the hopper that are closer to being complete than we kinda realized at the time.

Fact 4: We’re going to be releasing a lot of music over the next couple months. We are pandering to the algorithms so bear with us please.

Fact 5: “If You’re So Rich, Why Aren’t You Smart?” is 100% based on the X-Men episode where Bishop is time traveling and gets bumped off his time jump into the Axis of Time where he uncovers a plot by Apocalypse to kidnap all the psychics and take over the world/time/whatever. Like… 100% that’s what it’s about. There’s an episode of Batman: The Animated called “If You’re So Smart, Why Aren’t You Rich?” and the OG undertaking used that as a song title… so I did the ol’ “switch a couple words around” and now the title has more to do with politics and our current American dream than Riddler trying to trick Batman. God, that was the nerdiest paragraph I’ve ever written (Happy San Diego Comic Con week to those who celebrate).

Fact 6: I will post a link to pre-order the physical EP soon. I need to make sure we can sell 100 records before I commit to anything.

TIME OUT - now we need you.

Action 3: Buy a ticket to Better Lovers at Brick By Brick

Action 4: Please share our single when it’s out on Friday. Please please please.

Other than that, holy moly, let’s go! Releasing a song is always fun and scary.

DONKEY KONG

Anyone else donkey kong bananza this weekend? Pretty sick game so far. My 11 year old is loving it. I haven’t really smashed into too much yet.

EDDINGTON

Here’s a link to JP’s review - I didn’t ask JP if I could link to it so you gotta go to his letter box.

Eddington is the oddest movie I’ve seen in a long time and I kinda love it. I kinda love it a lot but it also wasn’t super fun to watch. I don’t know. Watch it and tell me what you thought. It might be bad. I don’t know. 2020 was such a weird year.

Discord, Merch, New Single. Let’s roll y’all.
