No One Died Tonight For Their Beliefs
But the statement was chanted a couple times this weekend
It’s pretty simple. Rock n Roll will never die. It doesn’t have too. We can sustain it. We can raise up new generations. Older generations can keep it going. It’s for everyone. Don’t gatekeep it. Share it.
Two shows. Saturday and Sunday. Boom boom and done. If you came to the show, thank you so very much. There’s a few of you here. Means a lot. Pretty cool shows! Saturday was the first time we’ve played “LA.” Still haven’t done like… Hollywood or DTLA but Whittier still counts as LA. Silverback rules. Great promoter up there. Posted the fliers a bunch. Had a rad DIY venue. Used to be a Chinese restaurant and now it’s a hardcore venue. Some would say it’s perfect. Other’s would say “that’s it?” They’re wrong. The Green Turtle is rad. Good work Silverback team.
Vista showed up. Rumors say there were more people at our show than the Haywire show and Currents show. Others say there’s no chance. If you said no chance, well, you’re right haha. We played in Vista the same night as Haywire at one spot (Sold Out) and Currents and Erra at another spot. Considering the “competition,” I’m very very very pleased that people came out to our show! So sick. Videos are on Instagram.
It was such a pleasant time hanging out with Meadows again. It’s been a minute since we saw them last. The best boys. I don’t think they sub to the newsletter so I don’t HAVE to be nice about them. Great band. We love them very much.
NIV was awesome. It’s inspiring to see some 45+ year old dudes just jamming. It’s inspiring to see families bringing their young kids to the show of a band they saw in high school. Pretty rad.
Felt really good to have a quick weekender. That’s my recap. Fun shows. Fun people. Thanks for coming to our party!
UPCOMING SHOWS

May 30 at Tower Bar
June 12 at Eastside Bowl in Nashville. Or something like that.
Try to come. Our shows are fun. Videos on Instagram
Johnny’s Video Game Corner: High on Life 2
There’s a section in this game where you pause your mission to stop an alien pharmaceutical company from turning humans into pills to travel from outer space to Wyoming (Earth) so you and your family can rescue your dad from a cult, and one of your talking guns’ wife shows up to get her divorced papers signed. So, I’m not sure where to start with this game.
High on Life 2 is an odd, funny, self-referencing, crass first-person shooter that can sometimes be technically janky but paced well with action & story with absurd alien NPCs everywhere. It does a good job of building off it’s predecessor in combat & characters but the sequel’s main gameplay difference is traversing the maps on your skateboard. Being able to zoom and grind through levels while using different alien blaster buddies (Gatlians) to take out bounty hunters and solve puzzles feels very satisfying.
I think the highlight for me with the High on Life games is the goofy dialogue & characters. It’s rare to play a video game and laugh out loud, but there’s plenty of ridiculous moments in this game that got me. From the strange interactions with Apples (voiced by Joe Pera) who is banished from the town for “unspeakable acts” that “wouldn’t fit the game’s rating,” running into an NPC (Joel Haver) who thought it was a good idea to bring his kid to work at his bounty hunting job, or pretty much anything that the Gatlian named Creature (Tim Robinson) says had me chuckling.
If you don’t mind some language in your (sometimes crude) humor, High on Life 2 is a silly but entertaining FPS journey to a different galaxy.
(Editor’s Note - My brain broke reading Johnny’s first paragraph, but also I watched him stream this game for a bit so I know it’s all true. DO NOT re-read that paragraph).
