Nothing Good Ever Lasts Forever

And processing a bittersweet goodbye

Ew, gross. You expected us to say we’re done being a band. How many times do I need to tell you that The Undertaking! will last forever? Ugh, shame on you for opening this newsletter and expecting some terrible news about the band. Nah, it’s all good. Like Pete the Cat says we’ll “keep walkin’ along and singin’ our song.”

I mean, for the most part it’s all good. The Padres lost in the Wild Card round of the 2025 playoffs. And that’s a sad sad sad thing for the band. We practice on Monday nights and it seemed like the Padres played on a lot of Mondays. They kept us good company for many of our practices. And that’s the thing with baseball. 162 games. For 162 nights, Don Orsillo and Mark Grant’s voices occupy our TVs, iPads, Computers, Phones, however you watch. It’s why I’m very romantic about baseball. You can just have it on. It becomes part of your family. Football is spectacle. It’s an event. Baseball becomes a part of your life. And I’m sad that it’s over.

This was a good season. Our radio hosts and our twitter fans would say it was terrible but we won 90 games in back to back seasons for the first time in franchise history. They’ve been a franchise since 1969 (#nice). Stop being so pessimistic, ya weinies.

Sports are weird. We get all fired about our team throwing and hitting a little ball around a field. It’s a child’s game. But it’s also EVERYTHING. I’m sad the Padres lost to the Cubs. I’m also happy ‘cause now I get more time to watch football, another sport where dudes toss a little ball around the field. That means the band can start watching movies on Monday nights again during practice. Maybe we’ll watch the Fellowship of the Rings again. (editors note: we watched Edge of Tomorrow - great flick).

Nothing good should last forever, by the way. Ending stuff is actually good. Arrested Development should have ended after season 3. Sometimes if something goes on and on forever, it’s cheapened by time. Law of diminishing return or something. Unless it’s Furnace Fest. We hope that lasts forever (get your wish list wednesdays ready folks)

RIP 2025 San Diego Padres. Love you. See you next year.

SHOWS (like concerts, not TV)

October 18 at Garcia’s Tire Shop. Come hang out. This one will be great.

November 9 at Programme. This one will be great as well. Get your tickets here

2026 shows: Currently trying to line up a west coaster that goes LA, San Diego, Sacramento, Portland, Spokane, Boise, Salt Lake, Las Vegas. Lots of driving but trying to meet up with our friends in some of those cities. Spots we’ve been before. New spots too. We’re bringing [REDACTED] and [REDACTED]. You can probably guess if you tried real hard.

Also, we’re looking at an east coast jaunt in September/October of ’26. Depends on when Furnace Fest 26 is. Gonna try to force our way onto the actual fest this year. No reason to keep our intentions secret.

Oh, by the way, 3 more singles from OLATSTE. Next one is October 24. 2 shows to finish out the year. Maybe a weekender in the Bay Area, LA and San Diego in January. West Coast run in April 26. East Coast in October 26. Release an album in 26. That’s the plan.

Next week, I’m trying to get some Furnace Fest recaps in here from a couple of buddies. One of the OG singers of The Undertaking! and a drummer from a band some of you love.

In the mean time, LFGSD. Buy some merch. Join our discord.
