Project Hail Mary & Da Bomb
Not the movie. The band.
Okay. I lied. It’s the movie. Took my boys last week to see “Project Hail Mary.” It was good! It’s very long. It’s pretty funny. Ryan Gosling is a star. Rocky is a star!
I didn’t read the book. I read “The Martian.” Kylee read PHM and the review she left in her notes app was “liked the Martian better.” If you want to understand what Kylee likes… one was based on real life and one had an alien. Kylee = real. Me = not real. That’s how you can define our media intake. Gimme all the sci-fi. More aliens the better.
PHM - big hit at the box office. It’s Lord and Miller. They tend to make good things. Box office hits are good! I know some of y’all don’t do the theater, but I highly recommend it!
Can we talk about the Gos for a sec? Dude crushes. “The Nice Guys” is one of my fav movies from the 20 years (notice how I opened the time range on that… cause I’d probably try to argue that “Children of Men” came out 5 years ago… it came out in 2009. That’s more than five years). Go watch Nice Guys if you haven’t. Gosling can do romance, action, comedy. No one’s cooler than him in “Driver.” He’s doing a Star Wars next. Let’s go. Oh… “The Nice Guys” came out 10 years ago. See? Time is weird.
Oh - my kids. They liked Hail Mary! It pushed them with how long it was. It pushed me. It’s long. It’s like the episode of “The Studio” where they have to tell Ron Howard his movie is too long…. but my boys looooooved Rocky. It’s not necessarily a kid friendly movie, but it’s not not kid friendly. They liked the story/vibe so much my boys wanted to watch “The Martian” so we queued that up this weekend. Parental admission… that movie has two f bombs and Damon mouths it a couple time. Whoops! They liked it a lot though. Movies rule. Sorry about the f bombs.
Speaking of Hail Marys…. in the movie, someone says a Hail Mary is a long shot that most people don’t think will work. My eyebrows raised and I thought “HEY! don’t talk about The Undertaking!” like that!” How rude. But also true. Also, just for clarification, the movie person wasn’t actually talking about the band. But damn, sometimes it feels like we’re a Hail Mary. Something designed as a long shot. Something most people won’t see as successful. But jokes on them, babbbbby! We’re spamming “Da Bomb” in our little real life version of Blitz. Smashing 60 yard TDs all day long.
Uh… long winded way of saying big things coming. Maybe more shows. Maybe more music. Got some stuff in the works. You guys will always be the first to know.
Regarding music, we have vocals on seven songs. Hoping to tackle a couple more this week. Would get us to 10 songs with Vox. That’s an album if you’re keeping track at home.
Regarding old music, Funeral Psalms turns 5 next month. Regarding old music, Superstitions came out 3 years ago.
Regarding shows, we’ll see you on April 11 and 12. Right??? Right?!?
Last note for today: Padres baseball is back this week! Let’s gooooooooo. I don’t really care if they’re good. I just want baseball back.
Management said I have to tell you to buy windbreakers.
