Undertaking!
My hope and dream with The Undertaking! is that it’ll never die. That this stupid chaotic hardcore band will live on forever. We’ll be 55 and still rocking some chaotic riffs, kinda like Matt Fox from Shai Hulud. That’s my dream. To be Matt Fox from Shai Hulud.
My other hope and dream is that we never have to do a “so and so is no longer associated with the band” post. Makes me sad when I see posts like that ‘cause it means that along the way, the core spirit of rock n roll was lost. Like… the idea of LLC’s and taxes and the business side of things got in the way of 5 friends just getting together and playing music. I’m only talking about The Undertaking!, by the way. No one else in particular. We’ve had times where we tried to make the next big step as a band (failed) or we tried to do this one thing that was gonna push us forward (failed) and every time we lost sight of having fun, it was… not fun anymore.
Last Sunday, when we played at Programme, I was stoked to hang out with my friends. I was stoked to set up our gear and hang out. Stoked to play music to a group of people. We play at Brick by Brick on December 19 and I’m stoked! We get to invite some friends to come hang out at one of our favorite venues. We get to play songs that we created, riffs that we constructed, lyrics that we haphazardly threw together. Come on! Let’s stay ROMANTIC ABOUT MUSIC.
Lessons learned:
We created an LLC and dissolved it a bit after starting it. We lose money as a band and every year the government would still ask us to pay taxes. No thanks.
We got a booking agent who was a butthead. We would try to do stuff and he would tell us why it was a bad idea. Then, we didn’t do fun stuff.
All song writing credits are always divided equally.
Rock n Roll will never die.
MOVIES & TV
I don’t know. I’m behind. Makes me sad. Keeper? Running Man? Predator? Anyone?
TV - The Final Frontier, or Last Frontier. I don’t know if I’ve watched a show this bad that’s also got its hooks in me and I can’t stop watching.
ROCK SHOWS
The Undertaking! W/ Secrets at Brick x Brick on December 19.
Plan on flying to Southern California on April 11/12. Cecil knows it’ll be worth it.
MUSIC
EP comes out on December 5.
Should we release an album with no singles next year? Plead The Widow’s Cause style? Scary, but Johnny and I talked about it. Would love it.
