with a can-do attitude
Uhhhh - band update. That was my intro for our recent reel and I chuckle when I get to post stuff like that. Some poor soul thought maybe there was an important update in that reel. Ha! But also, who am I kidding, it’s gonna get 650 views and 22 likes. Maybe 3 comments. Socials suck. ACTUALLY - I take that back. I posted that Underoath v Norma Jean thing and got people’s attention.
Band update - please buy our merch. It’s the easiest and best way to support us. If we don’t sell merch, the band engine starts to lose momentum. It’s like an engine needing oil (assuming I know how engines work… I don’t). I’d love to get rid of those $10 shirts, by the way. We have 3 announced shows. March 16. April 11. April 12. We have two shows in May that aren’t announced. San Diego ones. We are trying to plan a run in October that hits some east coast cities. Having a tough time getting it off the ground. We’ve got a good ol fashion chicken and the egg situation on our hands. Need a band to commit before pitching it to promoters but can’t get the band to commit until they know how much money they can make. We’re trying.
Album update - I’ll be honest. My family has been sick since the last weekend of January. RSV or COVID or something… but we’re almost in the clear. My voice got hit hard… throat, coughing, etc. So… long story short, I wasn’t able to demo any vocals this year. BUT I should be good to go starting NOW. We have 12ish songs in our Samply right now. Really happy with the songs. Next step is to record some Vox over top the songs and then we can properly evaluate what the songs are. Still writing with the 20 song mark in mind. If we can get 20 songs, we’ll probably release 10 this year and 10 next year. Or 12 this year and 8 next year. Or all 20 this year. It doesn’t matter.
Oh - shows. Pre-sale ticket. Please consider buying tickets ahead of time. I know it doesn’t seem necessary if the show isn’t going to sell out, but trust me, its important. It shows the promoter a lot of valuable information about the show. Just a note. Do what you want. But just remember that buying tickets in advance is a very good thing for DIY shows with ticket links availabe.
MOVIES - I re-watched Superbad recently. Is that the funniest movie ever made? Weird to watch a 2005 adjacent movie 21 years later. The way they dressed. The music. That’s our high school, I guess.
Saw Hoppers with my kiddos on Friday. Really rad movie. Very enjoyable. Wouldn’t say it’s like Up or Wall-E life changing, but Hoppers was rad. Go check it out. Take your kids to the movies.
MUSIC - hey, I just realized I don’t really talk about music here. I’m not really a new music guy. Sorry for lacking. Maybe we can try harder.
Anyways, that’s it this week. We’ve got the Oscars soon so I’ll probably write about what wins next week.
Love you guys. Thanks for hanging with us!
