you forgot the sun

And why Idle Threat is.

Idle Threat uses lower cases on all their song titles. And my notes app really doesn’t like that. Keep “you’ll forget the sun” lower case, MacBook. Thank you in advance. It’s kinda like how it auto fills Godseyes anytime I write God. Not sure what that says about my current walk with God(seyes).

Anyways, Why is Idle Threat?

First off - Happy Mother’s Day to all the moms. The Undertaking! really wouldn’t exist without the mom support we get over here. Specifically but not limited to: the support we get from our partners. The support we get from our actual moms. It’s not lost on us. Thank you.

Second off - The Padres are doing pretty good! Hope your baseball team is bringing you joy this year.

Third off - our newsletter our rules. But also, would love to hear any suggestions for you (the reader). Want more info on writing? Or weird nuances of booking shows? Or the harrowing disappointment of being DIY? If anyone ever wants more ramblings on a certain topic, let us know! Even its like a “hey, you mentioned _______ before. What did you? Could you clarify that a bit more?” I’d love to hear that.

May is almost half way through. That means we’re inching closer to our shows with Idle Threat. I just got off the phone with Ernie and we’re very stoked for those shows. Hitting a couple spots we’ve never played. Which is great cause we have one of the RV maps where they put a sticker on each state that RVs been too. We have one of those. And we get to add stickers to Arkansas, Missouri and Indiana on this upcoming trip. (We don’t really have one of those maps). But it’s an area of the country we haven’t spent much time in sooooo that’s exciting. Mother’s Day note - when we travel, it puts a lot of extra pressure on our families. Shout out to the mom’s. That’s for reals not even sassy or sarcastic. Thank you.

Idle Threat (finally) released their LP2 “you’ll forget the sun.” They’ve talked a bit on socials about what the album means to them. It’s really really really good! We got a chance to listen to it a year ago and it’s been so hard not to drop the link in this chat. Hahahahaha. I was close a couple times but never did. Proud of myself. I think the thing I’m draw to with Idle Threat is that their authentic music matches their authentic personality. What you hear from this band is straight from their heart. They wear their emotions on their sleeves and it’s pure. When intention matches execution…. That’s where I get stoked. They achieved it. Here’s Justin. He’s gonna say a couple words about the album:

JJ’s Brew Corner:

Hey, y’all. I’m delighted that Visser invited me back to run my mouth. This whole music thing really can be cool, especially when it brings people together like this. TU! has championed my band, idle threat, more than its own members plenty of times; God knows I’m guilty. There ain’t enough gratitude in the world I could express to encapsulate the love I have for this budding brotherhood.

In celebration of the release of my band’s sophomore LP “you’ll forget the sun,” we’re going to finally play some shows together. It was about damn time we put the never-playing-together bit to bed! These nights will simply be a hoot, and I’m glad we get to share these songs together - whether it be four shows or four hundred.

This batch of tunes has been sat on for quite a while, and it took a hot minute to even put the pen to paper and record, mix, and master. Truthfully, it went against the grain of a lot of what this ole punker’s heart believes, but I wouldn’t trade what this team did for anything else—

A couple years back, we made the decision to track with Stephen Keech (you may know him from Haste the Day or As Cities Burn), and it easily could be deemed as the best decision this band has ever made when it comes to creating new music. Minus a few bumps here and there, the process was a breeze; the end product was finally something that we were unanimously proud of, too.

I would be remiss if I didn’t take the time to brag on Dylan Winstead, as I have been trying to do in each interview that I’ve had lately. Without this guy’s fingerprints all over the writing, “yfts” wouldn’t be what it is. It’s an honor and privilege to be in a band with such a rocker.

Anyways, yadda yadda yadda, blah blah blah. idle threat has a new record out. Go check it out. Love it or hate it, I’m just glad anyone is listening. Follow us on any social medium, and let the rock commence.

I can’t wait to play with TU!, and I hope I get to steal the mic or something

Much love (sunflower emoji)

BAND UPDATES

Oh oh oh - this is kinda fun. We’ve had a song called “spoiled intuition” in the hopper for a while. Something just wasn’t fully clicking with the song and we jammed it last week. we said its good. Maybe a song 9 on a record. THEN BRENT CAME THROUGH and got it to click. maybe. Fully rearranged the song. And I think it might be super sick now. We’ll see. SI is why we jam the songs. It’s why we aren’t in a hurry. Well, we are, but we aren’t. You know? We wanna put out music yesterday, but it’s gotta be GOOD.

Ok - that’s it for today. See you next… Tuesday.
